WHAT AND WHO ARE THE ANTHROPOS

National Anthropos of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. is…

  • A group of males that is closely connected with members of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc.—spouse, significant other, brother, son, male friend, etc.

  • The Anthropos is a nationally organized affiliate of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THE WORD “ANTHROPOS” ?

  • A Greek word meaning “male”.

  • The original group of males was organized in 1950 by Mu Chapter and was named the Phi Delity Club, and referred to themselves as the “Men in Our Lives.” The group did not remain active very long after Mu Chapter hosted the 1954 Conclave in Chicago.

  • In 1975 Supreme Basileus Soror Arthur Mae Norris revived/reorganized the Men in Our Lives”. The reorganization took place in Jacksonville, Florida in 1975. Later, Supreme Basileus Norris recommended to the 1977 Conclave assembly that the “Men in Our Lives” would become organized as a National affiliate. The Conclave body approved the recommendation. The official name was changed to the “Anthropos”—simply referring to the “males”. During the 1977 Conclave held in Dallas, Texas a total of 147 Anthropos attended. The National Anthropos became fully operational under their new name in 1977, the first year of newly elected Supreme Basileus Billy Mason’s administration.

ANTHROPOS SONG

Words and Music by Mabel C. Bohannan

As star-light beams

The love in our hearts gleams,

For our sweethearts, Phi Delta Kappa.

We stand by your side

And will always be your guide,

Our sweethearts, Phi Delta Kappa.

Ne’er will we leave thee,

Nor will we forsake thee.

We’ll love you, love you,

Forever, ever.

We’ll make a toast to you,

To you we’ll e’er be true,

The Anthropos of your lives
